The Saint Lucia Racer is considered one of the rarest snakes in the world and survives only on a tiny offshore islet. Once common across Saint Lucia, the species declined rapidly after mongooses were introduced in the 19th century. Today it persists in a very small habitat where its survival depends on intensive conservation efforts.
